The Cinematic Schematic continues our sneak peek of the 2024 deadCenter Film Festival in an exclusive interview with Emmett Berg, the director of one of the festival’s world premiere documentary centerpieces, Saucedo.

The Saucedo documentary takes an intimate look at reinvention

Alex Saucedo, a championship boxer, tragically retired at age 26 after experiencing two life-threatening brain injuries in a 2020 match. Saucedo immediately retired and gave up the career he’d worked hard to build for many years.

Not long after, his friend Emmett Berg approached Saucedo about capturing the story of finding his way to a new life, more focused on his family. The documentary, largely shot in Oklahoma City and Tulsa over three years, explores how one individual can overcome tragedy.
