After several post-COVID years of underperforming summer movie seasons (partly due to various strikes), this year’s biggest movie season finally rebounded. Though it may be premature to say the industry has returned to 2019 levels, film fans celebrated a slew of great movies by turning out to theaters, while executives celebrated the biggest summer movie business in over a decade.

This summer saw new franchise films like Toy Story 5, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and The Devil Wears Prada 2. Surprise triumphs included Curry Barker’s Obsession and Kane Parsons’ Backrooms, along with new films from beloved directors like Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey and Steven Spielberg’s Disclosure Day.

Most of us know the movies everyone saw, but what about the films that flew under the radar? Whether it was the sheepish mysteries buried on streaming, or an unsung martial arts classic, this summer was also packed with hidden gems and sleeper classics.

The Cinematic Schematic wraps up the season by taking a look at five movies from Summer 2026 you probably missed. Did any of your favorites make the cut?

Tune in to the full summer 2026 movie season wrap-up for our recommendations.
