This week’s episode of The Cinematic Schematic serves up chimichangas in our review of Deadpool & Wolverine. Marvel Studios’ sole 2024 release uniting Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman has set the box office on fire, grossing an estimated $211 million on its opening weekend at the domestic box office and $441 million globally. The slow death of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been greatly exaggerated. Has director Shawn Levy, Reynolds, and Jackman delivered the goods?

    Introducing X-Force: Critics Edition

To embark on this 20th Century Fox meets Disney multiverse hop, hosts Caleb Masters and Laron Chapman are joined by GoodTrash Media’s Arthur Gordon and Oklahoma Filmmaker (and Marvel Enthusiast) Jada Merritt.

Left to Right: Jada Merritt, Laron Chapman, Arthur Goron, and Caleb Masters.

Ice Breaker Question: What do we think about the state of the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

    Time Stamp: 4:03

We do a pulse check on the Marvel Cinematic Universe to start this week’s conversation. We haven’t discussed those movies since our mini-review of Antman & The Wasp: Quantumania and in-depth conversation covering Wakanda Forever. Given its string of critical and box office underperformers, how are we feeling about where things are today? Should there be a “Marvel Jesus?”

    Spoiler-Free Review

    Time Stamp: 16:30

Given how integral easter eggs, cameos, or surprises related to the MCU are to the plot, we will only be spoiling things explicitly covered in the trailer.

In our spoiler-free review, we’ll cover:

    • Our overall thoughts on Deadpool & Wolverine
    • Letter grade verdicts
    • Alternate media recommendations

    Spoilers Analysis Discussion

    Time Stamp: 57:40

The claws are off when we crack open the secrets, cameos, and surprises the film has in store in our spoilers discussion. A few of the topics we’ll look at include:

    • Does this film close the loop on Deadpool’s previous films?
    • Reflecting on the end of the 20th Century Fox era of Marvel Movies
    • How does the movie impact the MCU?
