In October 2021, The Cinematic Schematic laid the tracks for a prophecy predicting the greatness of Dune Part Two in our review of the first film. Since then, a famine has overtaken Hollywood, due in large part to poor management from the Imperium (cough studio executives) who caused the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes of 2023.

Only one group of film critic podcasters possesses the unique ability to unite listeners. Will The Cinematic Schematic sing the praises of Dune: Part Two, or has director Denis Villeneuve bitten off more than he can chew in this wildly ambitious adaptation?

    Meet the Prophets

To provide a proper verdict, we reunited our team of reviewers from the 2021 film including The Cinematropolis‘s Daniel Bokemper, No Film School’s Jo Light, and GoodTrash Media‘s Dalton Stuart. Much like Dune: Part Two‘s new joiners Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, and Christopher Walken, Laron Chapman is here for this conversation, and host Caleb Masters claims his position as the prophet destined to deliver a review that will change the fate of the galaxy for generations.

Left to Right: Dalton Stuart, Daniel Bokemper, Laron Chapman, Jo Light, and Caleb Masters ride the Shai-Halud to the Dune: Part Two review.

Breaking the Ice With Dream Adaptations

To kick off today’s conversation, we break the ice by discussing other sci-fi stories we’d like to see adapted to the big screen, with each host naming the material and their pitch for director and key cast members.

What other sci-fi stories would you like to see on the big screen?

Does Dune: Part Two Live Up To the Spice-Powered Hype?

In our spoiler-free review, we weigh in on our overall thoughts on the film including:

    • Does this provide a satisfying payoff to the promises made in Part One?
    • What did you think about the new cast members?
    • Our letter-grade verdicts
    • What alternate movie, television, novel, music, video game, or other media recommendations would you give the listeners who enjoy Dune: Part Two?

Examining the Ineffable Ideas of Dune Part Two

After providing our initial review, we dive deep into the deserts of Arrakis to drink the water of life and discover the truths hiding in spoilers such as:

    • How the film continues exploration of the dangers of embracing messiahs
    •  Why audience embrace of Dune: Part Two’s weird niche sci-fi is a win for cinema
    •  Whether or not this film ends on a satisfying note
    •  What we hope to see in the inevitable sequel, Dune: Messiah

Does Dune: Part Two deliver the out-of-this-world spectacle promised in the 2021 film, or has the hype been overblown? Listen today for our in-depth analysis.
