The Cinematic Schematic is back for another dance with Ghostface in our review of Scream 7. This time, the film is directed by the original film’s screenwriter, Kevin Williamson.

We are big fans of the Scream series on the podcast. We conducted a thorough analysis of the first four movies. We returned to Woodsboro for Scream in 2022 (AKA 5cream) and went to New York for Scream VI in 2023. It’s been three years, and there’s been significant behind-the-scenes drama for the newest entry.

On November 21, 2023, it was reported that Melissa Barrera, who starred as Sam Carpenter in Scream (2022) and Scream VI, had been fired from the seventh film due to pro-Palestinian social media posts about the Gaza war.

The following day, Deadline Hollywood reported that Jenna Ortega would not reprise the role of Tara Carpenter due to scheduling conflicts with her starring role as Wednesday Addams in the second season of Wednesday. She later refuted this statement.

In March 2024, Neve Campbell announced via Instagram that she was returning as the lead Sydney Prescott alongside Kevin Williamson (writer/producer of some of the previous films, including the sequel). Several other previous cast members also returned.

Was going back to the original face of the franchise the best move?

Everyone on this panel is a suspect.

Hosts Caleb Masters and Laron Chapman assemble the “Avengers” of Scream fans, tapping in Oklahoma filmmaker Chris Oz McIntosh, the How I Met Your Monster podcast’s Danny Salemme, and Scream aficionado Brock Lay.

    About Scream 7

According to IMDB, Scream 7 is described as:

When a new Ghostface killer emerges in the town where Sidney Prescott has built a new life, her darkest fears are realized as her daughter becomes the next target.
