To paraphrase Lin Manuel’s Hamilton, have you ever wondered what it’s like to be in the building where it happened? Oklahomans can finally experience the rich history of the state capitol in The People’s House: The Story of Oklahoma’s Capitol.

In this special interview with returning guest Bryan Beasley, we discuss how his team put together the technically impressive four-minute Oklahoma state capitol drone tour. The film includes a visually spectacular ride through the House floor, Senate floor, Oklahoma Supreme Court, and other notable locations in the building.

Oklahoma residents can catch this exciting account of the state capitol’s history at the second annual DocOKC documentary film festival on Friday, August 4th at 7 PM CDT as part of the OKLAHOMA Doc Shorts Block. The film will also air on OETA and eventually be shown in the Oklahoma State Capitol Museum.

Listen to the conversation to learn more about this exciting retelling of Oklahoma history.

About The People’s House: The Story of Oklahoma’s Capitol

According to the DocOKC website, The People’s House: The Story of Oklahoma’s Capitol is described as:

Politicians, activists, artists, and civil servants come together to restore the Oklahoma State Capitol building to match the state’s noble and, perhaps surprising, trail-blazing roots.

“The People’s House: The Story of the Oklahoma State Capitol” is a short documentary showcasing the long history and significance of the State Capitol building. The film showcases the rich history of the building: the controversy of Guthrie vs. Oklahoma City, the building of the original structure, the city sprouting up around the Capitol, and, of course, the eight year renovation that was just completed. The film will showcase some of the best of Oklahoma with its admiration for art, its beloved legendary sons & daughters, and its distinctive unwavering voice. The art that hangs in her halls will be detailed, the great Oklahomans who have laid in repose will be examined, and with each we will see how every corner and crevice of the State Capitol was constructed to uplift Oklahomans and uphold their values.
