Conclave Is Anointed As Best Film at the 2024 Oklahoma Film Critics Circle Awards

    January 3, 2025
Oklahoma Film Critics Circle 2024 Awards

The 2024 Oklahoma Film Critics Circle Awards Are Here

The Oklahoma Film Critics Circle (OFCC) announced its 19th annual slate of award winners, with Conclave riding a wave of support from the membership to claim the title for Best Film of 2024. This selection capped a diverse recognition for films that spanned languages, genres, platforms and more to capture the notice of a global audience.

“While the OFCC joined many awards groups in recognizing Anora and The Brutalist as among the year’s best, by honoring Conclave in five major categories the OFCC made a clear statement that there’s much more to Conclave – both artistically and thematically – than its controversial final twist,” said Jeff Huston, OFCC president.

    Introducing New Categories

In 2024, OFCC membership approved the addition of three new categories: Best Stunt Coordination, Best Performance by an Animal Actor, and Best Indigenous Film. The inclusion of these new categories recognizes the importance of the diverse viewpoints and technical expertise contributing to today’s film industry.

“The addition of Best Indigenous Film is of particular value to the OFCC membership, as we consider it both an honor and responsibility to recognize the growing contribution of ancestral filmmakers to our collective cinematic journey, whether they be Native Americans or natives of any nation or continent,” said Huston. “This year, the searing real-life tragedy Sugarcane was the first to receive that award, and the runner-up in our Indigenous category, Fancy Dance, won the Best First Feature prize for director Erica Tremblay.”

From blockbuster films like Dune: Part Two and Wicked to films that strike at the heart of the human experience like The Brutalist and The Substance, 2024 provided a film calendar that kept audiences engaged. While conversations coalesced later in the year around critical favorites, surprises at the box office proved a demand by audiences for a wider range of stories to immerse themselves in.

    About the OFCC

The OFCC is composed of Oklahoma-based professional film journalists, academics, and critics working in broadcast, print, and digital media. Media outlets include The Oklahoman, Oklahoma Gazette, Tulsa World, and Edmond Life & Leisure.
