The Cinematic Schematic is holding an emergency bonus review of one of this summer’s most widely disliked movies, Borderlands. Based on the beloved looter shooter game franchise, this adaptation from horror filmmaker Eli Roth aims to bring the world of Pandora (no, not THAT Pandora…or that one) to the big screen. With a stacked cast including Oscar-winners Cate Blanchette and Jamie Lee Curtis, Kevin Hart, and Jack Black, what could go wrong? Looking at the film’s D+ CinemaScore from audiences, 9% on Rotten Tomatoes, and massive flop at the box office, apparently quite a lot.

Every Vault Hunt Needs a Good Partner

To do a proper autopsy on what went wrong with Borderlands, host Caleb Masters joins podcaster and fellow Borderlands fan Chad Parizman to break down the movie in a bonus spoiler-filled review.

The conversation starts with added context about the hosts’ relationship with the game franchise. We then discuss what works and what doesn’t before rendering a verdict.

Does the film provide enough prized vault surprises to preserve even a glimmer of quality? Check out our full review.
