The gloves are off, listeners. The Cinematic Schematic heads to the next world tournament to review Street Fighter, the fourth (and final) major video game adaptation of 2026.

Video gam film adaptations have been having a moment. We’ve had The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, Mortal Kombat II, and Resident Evil most recently. Though the quality hasn’t been ideal, they’ve all had varying degrees of box office success.

In this era, what was old is new again. This reboot is the third Street Fighter film, following the 1994 film (starring Van Damme) and Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, starring Kristen Kreuk as Chun-Li.

Capcom, the video game publisher behind franchises like Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, Devil May Cry, and Mega Man, created Street Fighter in 1987. This iteration film stars Noah Centineo as Ken Masters, Andrew Koji as Ryu / Dark Ryu, Callina Liang as Chun-Li, Joe “Roman Reigns” Anoa’i as Akuma, David Dastmalchian as M. Bison, Cody Rhodes as Guile, Andrew Schulz as Dan Hibiki, Eric André as Don Sauvage, Orville Peck as Vega, and Jason Momoa as Blanka.

The cast is stacked, and the marketing has been promising. But does it bring enough thrills to outdo its crosstown rival, Mortal Kombat II? Or better yet, does it raise the bar for what’s possible in a video game based on a 90s fighting game?

Is Street Fighter firing on all Flaming Hadoukens, or is this a knockout for the franchise? Tune in for our verdicts.

According to IMDB, Street Fighter is described as:

Street Fighters Ryu and Ken reunite when Chun-Li recruits them for the World Warrior Tournament. As they face a hidden conspiracy, they must confront each other and their past-or face destruction.
