SUMMARY:OKC: Filmography - "Worm"
DESCRIPTION:Art goes to the movies with 21c Oklahoma City’s Filmography\, a free monthly film series at 21c Oklahoma City in partnership with deadCenter Film and the OKC Film Society. Filmography takes place on the third Friday of each month. \nIn December\, join us for a screening of “Worm\,” the story of a man wanted for a double homicide in the small town of Guthrie\, OK. Jason “Worm” Truitt has a young daughter that he loves dearly – and a beautiful girlfriend that he feels is out of his league. Worm is always doing the wrong thing at the wrong time\, taking odd jobs for shady men\, and even breaking the law from time to time. He is constantly tailed by the local Sheriff\, and constantly berated by his own Father and friends. The film plays out as a Southern Neo-Noir of sorts. A modern day “whodunit” tale told using a chest-mounted Snorricam. The audience journeys with Worm as he tries to clear his name and make safe the ones he loves. Along the way\, he is entangled in a small town crime syndicate and nearly loses the people that mean the most to him. Did he commit this heinous crime? Will his past sins catch up to him? Only God knows. Worm won Best Oklahoma Film at the 2013 deadCenter Film Festival. \nEvent is free and open to the public.

SUMMARY:A Night at The Bronze: A Buffy The Vampire Slayer Art Show
DESCRIPTION:AN INTRODUCTION \nWe’re returning to the 51st Street Speakeasy this October just in time for Halloween with “A Night at the Bronze: A Buffy the Vampire Slayer Art Show.” If you have been following us\, this will be our 7th multimedia art show at the Speakeasy since October 2015\, which routinely features original work from artists\, musicians\, comedians\, filmmakers\, mixologists\, fashion designers and performance artists as well as interactive elements. To view posters from our previous productions\, please look in the event to see co-curator Mike Allen’s illustrations and designs. As with all of our events\, we try to build everything we do around a particular vibe or theme. \nWhether she was new kid in town or the sole person standing in front of an apocalypse\, Buffy Summers always threw down\, especially when things got spooky. In honor of this\, we’re transforming the 51st Street Speakeasy into two iconic spaces\, downstairs embodying the popular Sunnydale club (The Bronze) and morphing the upstairs portion of the bar into the only occult shop next to the Hellmouth (The Magic Box).\nIt should be noted that unlike the Bronze on TV\, the Speakeasy is still 21 and up. Sorry in advance as I know some people haven’t been able to attend in the past because of this. \nABOUT THE ART  \n\nOur makeshift gallery\, as always\, will be upstairs in the “Magic Box.” Submissions for this show are now open. Any artist interested\, please message James at robotsavescity@gmail.com. We will be taking a $10 flat-fee commission for every piece that sells that evening that we will donate to the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma. The rest of the money goes directly to artists so please adjust your prices accordingly if you’re an artist. Submissions must be completed by October 11th\, ready to hang.\nFor buyers\, we accept cash the night of the show. We try to let all pieces hang until at least midnight that evening. After midnight\, buyers are allowed to take home their art or arrange meeting times to pick their pieces up. \nAlso\, for one night only\, we will attempt to inundate the upstairs bar with supernatural forces in the form of tarot card readers and magicians. There’s no word on how we’re going to do that\, but we have a couple months to figure it out. Stay tuned. \nABOUT THE MUSIC \nDownstairs\, we’re making a conscious effort to make the Speakeasy feel like The Bronze\, the iconic bar from the show. This means we’re actively finding some of the best rock bands in town to flesh out the vibe. Also\, there might be a DJ cosplaying as the vampire Angel\, but that might be a surprise. \nOfficially booked bands include LCG and the X as well as Shut Up Matt Jewett. Check them out below\, and we’ll keep you posted as we book new acts. \nhttps://lcgandthex.bandcamp.com/ \nhttps://shutupmattjewett.bandcamp.com/releases\n \nABOUT THE FOOD \nAs always\, we’ll be working with Speakeasy to create variations of food and drinks that fit this night. There’s a possibility of the staff submitting their takes on Double Meat Palace’s burgers from the show or wings from The Bronze. \nCOMEDY\, OTHER FUN STUFF and FINAL NOTES  \nComedy Fight League’s Josh Lathe will be hosting a live\, comedic fan-fiction reading in one of the spaces. Also there’s talk about organizing a sing-along of the Buffy musical episode from Oklahoma’s own VHS and Chill. Cosplayers are welcome as always. This theme is pretty big\, so we’ll keep you posted as we come up with more ideas. \nAgain\, the show is free with a $3 suggested donation at the door that goes to bands and the people who put the show together.

SUMMARY:OKC Filmography - Eraserhead
DESCRIPTION:Art goes to the movies with 21c Oklahoma City’s Filmography\, a free monthly film series at 21c Oklahoma City in partnership with deadCenter Film and the OKC Film Society. Filmography takes place on the third Friday of each month. In October\, join us for a screening of “Eraserhead\,” an American surrealist body horror film written\, produced\, and directed by filmmaker David Lynch. Event is free and open to the public. \nAbout “Eraserhead”:\nThis surreal nightmare examines male paranoia. Our hero and title character\, Henry\, faces a number of horrifying obstacles in meeting someone of the opposite sex\, meeting her parents\, and procreating. Produced during a one-and-a-half-year period while director David Lynch was a student at the American Film Institute\, the film launched him as a major new talent admired by cinephiles and filmmakers all over the world. It stands today as a milestone in personal\, independent filmmaking.

SUMMARY:OKC Horror Fest: Two Things
DESCRIPTION:In 1951\, the subgenre of horror sci-fi was born with Howard Hawks’s adaptation of John W. Campbell’s short story “Who Goes There?”. Following the actions of an Alaskan research team as they deal with the aftermath of unearthing a creature of outer space\, the film is a perfect blend of strong Hawksian characters and dialogue with his uncanny skill at creating a dramatic environment with defined boundaries and distinct locations. The film also cast a post-Hiroshima and wary eye on scientific progress without causing the film’s American spirit to be corrupted by destruction from within. Those feelings\, however\, are not shared by John Carpenter’s 1982 remake which turns the research team into a pool of distrust\, further isolation\, and abject paranoia willing to turn on each other on a dime. The creature\, too\, becomes less of an ambulatory being with a humanlike structure and more of a mysterious shape-shifter that can imitate anyone or anything with a pulse. While their box office and critical outcomes were far from similar (the original was a massive hit\, the remake almost killed Carpenter’s career)\, both have gone on to be regarded as pantheon creations from their equally respected and masterful creators. OKC Film Society is proud to present these two classics back-to-back. WATCH THE SKIES!!!!

SUMMARY:The OKC Film Society Presents "Russ Meyer Goes Beyond"
DESCRIPTION:Looking for ways to connect to a burgeoning counter-culture audience\, 20th Century Fox left no stone unturned when looking for material. In 1970\, they hit pay dirt by hiring softcore auteur Russ Meyer whose self-produced films seemed to function as virtual money printers. If he could do that himself\, imagine what he could do with a giant budget and with studio resources! What Meyer and co-screenwriter Roger Ebert came up with was a zany\, breathless cautionary tale on the dark underbelly of Hollywood and show business that lampooned almost everything about the late 60’s and everybody associated with it. From its incendiary rock music blast of an opening to its quadruple homicide-double wedding closer\, the OKC Film Society August selection is a true happening and it freaks us out!

SUMMARY:808s & Solid Snake: A Kanye West/Metal Gear Art Show
DESCRIPTION:AN INTRODUCTION\nWe’re continuing our series of art shows with an expansive mash-up media event. In an attempt to take things to the next level\, we hope to showcase everything from culinary arts to fashion. With that in mind\, we proudly present to you “808s and Solid Snake\,” an art show inspired by two individuals who have captured our imaginations throughout the years: Kanye West and Hideo Kojima. \nFrom an outside perspective\, these two artists couldn’t seem more different from each other. Kanye West is a rapper with a volatile persona. Hideo Kojima is a game designer with an affinity for American culture and is most famous for creating Metal Gear. But if you look at their eccentricities more closely\, you’ll start add up similarities. \nKanye West and Hideo Kojima are vexing blends of forces. Both are iconic. Both are divisive: loved and hated. Both construct and deconstruct genres on a whim. Both can be intentionally abrasive in their work. Both have beef with their respective industries’ leaders and throw shade accordingly. Both have an eye for visual flair and the dramatic. Both can be pretentious and some how not at the same time. \nAt times\, it’s hard to tell if the two are arrogant or honest\, and that’s why they make such compelling muses for an art show. \nINFORMATION FOR VISUAL ARTISTS \nAs with all of our shows\, submissions are open. Please contact James at robotsavescity@gmail.com to discuss details. Submissions must be completed and ready to hang by June 14th. Artists will price pieces how they see fit. A $10 flat-rate commission from every sale will benefit the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma. \nMORE INFORMATION ABOUT THE SHOW \nIf you wish to attend\, there’s no cover for “808s and Solid Snake\,” but there will be a $3 suggested donation at the door that will benefit the performers. As with all of our shows\, the art will be upstairs while the entertainment will be downstairs. We’ll have music from rapper Teflo Dollar. We’ll have a fashion show inspired by the visual aesthetics of both Kanye and Kojima featuring clothing from Studda Budda and Elizabeth Cobb as well as others. Closing out the night will be “After the Apocalypse\,” third in series of apocalypse-themed stand-up comedy shows; this one tackling a Metal Gear apocalypse. \nWe’ll have more acts and facets added to the show as we get closer. On behalf of Mike Allen\, the Speakeasy and all the artists who have participated in our shows\, we thank you for the continued support.
