New year, new us, new movies! The Cinematic Schematic is flipping the page on the new calendar with a look ahead at the new movies to watch in 2025.

Caleb Masters, Laron Chapman, and Daniel Bokemper pour a glass of the finest champagne to celebrate another year of watching the silver screen.

After catching up on our final selections from the end of the year, we revisit our box office predictions from 2024. Each host makes their best guess at the number one movie of 2025.

We then pick our top three most anticipated movies of the year and take our best shot at picking the 2025 best picture. We conclude the show with our second annual New Year Sneak Peek Movie Trivia.

What are your most exciting new movies to watch in 2025?

    Time Stamp: 24:15

In our 2024 Sneak Peek last year, we bet on which movie would be the biggest box office hit.

    • Laron bet on Dune: Part Two(1), Deadpool & Wolverine (2), or Wicked (3)
    • Daniel bet on Deadpool & Wolverine(1), Joker: Folie à Deux(2), or Dune: Part Two
    • Caleb bet on Inside Out (1), Dune: Part Two(2), or Deadpool & Wolverine(3)

According to Deadline, the 2024 domestic box office brought in an estimated $8.72 billion, -3% from 2023’s $9 billion. Though the small drop-off was disappointing for theater exhibitors and Hollywood execs, it was lower than the $1 billion drop predicted at the beginning of the year.

Despite the lower figures, 2024 had its share of hits. The number of movies opening $20M or more in 2024 was down versus 2023, 34 films to 40 films, however, the number of titles seeing $100M+ openings remained the same at five (Inside Out 2 $154.2M, Deadpool & Wolverine $211.4M, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice $111M, Wicked $112.5M and Moana 2 $139.7M).

What will be the big winner this year? Avatar: Fire & Ash, Minecraft, Fantastic 4: First Steps, or Superman? Stick with The Cinematic Schematic all year long for the latest updates.

    It’s game time, let’s go!

Daniel Bokemper steps into the host seat for our second annual trivia game after reigning victorious for 2024.

How much do Caleb and Laron know about the 2025 release schedule?

    The Rules:

    • A final round will follow 15 questions. Each correct answer is worth a point.
      • Contestants will buzz in to answer. Each contestant gets 3 clues for the full game: An Actor/Actress from the movie.
      • Genre
      • Director
    • In the final round, you can wager your points, and correct answers will be rewarded with double the number of points wagered.
    • The winner gets bragging rights and also hosts the trivia in 2026 (or nominates a person to host in their place)

Tune in to find out which host knows the most about the new movies to watch in 2025!
