The Cinematic Schematic returns with our annual tradition of gathering the most knowledgeable and outspoken movie critics and connoisseurs for our 2026 Oscars predictions special.

This year’s Oscars race has taken some exciting and unexpected turns. Though Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another was long thought to be the frontrunner at the 98th Academy Awards, Ryan Coogler’s Sinners has shown impressive momentum, setting a new record for receiving 16 nominations–the most of any film in history.

The Best Lead Actor and Best Supporting Actress categories have also proven very competitive. Will Weapons‘ Amy Madigan take home the golden statue? Does Timothy Chalamet still have a chance to catch Michael B. Jordan? Who will take home Best Picture at the 98th Academy Awards?

Listen to our in-depth 2026 Oscar predictions discussion for tips on how to make your ballot.

Take a look at the list of 2026 Oscar nominees here. Need a ballot to complete your 2026 Oscars predictions? Take a look at Letterboxd’s digital version.
